Björn Lundahl     Throw DVD Shrink in the dustbin and use the superb software k9copy. About 2-3 years ago, I and my brother talked so warmly about DVD Shrink. We thought that this software for Windows XP users, was the king of all DVD compression software available in the market. I was amazed that it was free in the sense that you did not have to pay for it (freeware). We thought that other software that you had to pay for (shareware) were bloated and did the job badly compared to DVD Shrink. The software market is really a peculiar market and difficult to understand. Take for instance, the market for cars, if any car maker would give away their cars for free, their market share would increase enormously (before bankruptcy that is). Everyone would want a reasonable good car for free. But in the software market this is not always the case. I also have a personal peculiar interest and that is to analyse free markets, individual action and so on and I find it very difficult to understand consumer behaviour in this market, that is consumer behaviour in the software market. The winner is not always the suppliers of products which offers the most for consumer satisfaction. There exist some other hidden factor which is working here. I think that a main factor is ignorance. For the average guy, computers and computing are something mystical and difficult to understand, so he tends to use the kind of software which has a reputation already to at least be able to do the job to some degree. New competitors have a very difficult task to persuade him to use their software even if they are better and free of charge. He does not know this as he his ignorant of this very fact. Anyway, I have installed Ubuntu in my Acer laptop 3100 and thought that I will not be able to find a suitable substitute for this very good software. But about a week ago I browsed the internet to find out alternatives. I came to this site and downloaded k9copy to my Ubuntu machine and installed it. I made a very small test. I compressed the movies Spiderman I, II and the movie Titanic (with Leonardo Dicaprio). The DVD movie Titanic is of special interest here as the compression ratio is high as about 60%. Well, when I had compressed this movie with k9copy and watched it in my PC, I could not notice any difference in quality from the original DVD movie!! Amazing!! k9copy is very easy to use. Just load the movie and click on the icon k9copy and do away with unnecessary subtitles and choose between audio AC3 6Channel and AC3 2Channel. Those choices will make the DVD copy of a higher quality as the main movie will not be compressed so much if you exclude the unnecessary stuff. This software k9copy is a superb piece of software and I give it the highest marks. If I would install XP again (hypothetically), this software would be difficult to substitute.
